It’s not a chore to read, but it’s a bit boring. The literary version of the struggles to get pandas to bang.
The MC’s an awkward good-guy training munchkin, the supposed heroine’s an awkward Heroic journey munchkin with a ragtag group of fellow disciples, the harem bait #2 is an awkward slender munchkin employed as a distant merchant escort.
You see where I’m getting at? There’s not even interesting side-characters so far, they all get side-lined fast. Fight scenes are bland too. No real signs of romance, you got harem bait, yeah, but the MC doesn’t care. Main heroine doesn’t care either, MC is brother zoned at best and she’s studying the blade.
Honestly, in any other decent novel, this story would have started with an engagement dissolution.
